Katamoto Named MVC Player of the Week after two goal performance

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois women's soccer senior Nao Katamoto was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after scoring twice in the Salukis' 2-1 win over Murray State on Saturday. She joins teammates Brooke Goose, Penny Warner and Maya Dixon as the fourth Saluki to earn the honor this season.
Katamoto played a key role in Southern's comeback victory, scoring both goals. After Murray State took an early 1-0 lead, Katamoto converted a penalty kick in the 22nd minute to tie the match. Just over seven minutes later, she found the back of the net again to give the Salukis a 2-1 lead in the 29th minute. Maya Dixon and Dana Nadda assisted on the goal.
Katamoto's two goals helped Southern secure its seventh consecutive victory, extending the program record and improving to 2-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
