The Spirit Squad Program
Southern Illinois University Spirit Squad’s goal is to enhance the overall experience of the campus community by performing at Saluki sporting events, serving as ambassadors for the University, and being a role model of services, scholarship and leadership. SIU Spirit Squad consists of three groups, Cheer, Dance and Mascot. All squad members are held to the same high standards and are subject to the same rules, regulations and expectations.
Team Motto
To entertain fans and promote Saluki Athletics in a positive manner, on and off the court. To obtain the highest quality of standards while representing SIU in and out of uniform.
Participation in Events
Squad members are responsible for being available to promote Saluki spirit at the following events, including events, which may be held while classes are not in session at SIU:
· ALL home Volleyball games
· ALL home men’s Basketball games
· ALL home Football games
· ALL home women’s Basketball games
· ALL campus wide specialty events (including Homecoming, Family Weekend, Alumni events, etc.)
· Some out of town basketball games including post season play (to be determined)
· Rotational appearances at some campus wide events throughout the year including but not limited to: Family Week, Student Organization Showcase, New Student Orientation and at the administration’s request.
· Rotational appearances at some elementary/high school events or community events
· Some events may occur during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Breaks.
Tuition and Fee Waivers:
• As a Saluki Spirit Squad member, you are eligible to receive a portion of tuition and fee waiver money that is allocated to the SIU Spirit Squads (Shakers , Mascots, and Cheerleaders).
• Tuition and Fee Waivers for Spirit Squad members are available for members who are eligble for tuition fee waivers from Southern Illinois University. The distribution of tuition and fee waivers are based on years on the squad and leadership postion on the squad as determined by the Head Coach.
• All information on Tuition and Fee Waivers are available in the try-out packets available in the spring, and in the squad policy manuals.
