2023 was Tyler Cook's 2nd season as the outfield coach and assistant hitting coach for the Salukis.
Also, SIU's first base coach, Cook helped the Salukis set the school record for home runs in a single season in 2022, 88. They tallied the second most hits (623), second most runs scored (459) and second most RBIs (422) in school history in 2022. SIU also was first or second in the MVC in batting average, slugging percentage, on base percentage, hits, runs scored, RBIs and home runs.
Cook's coaching career includes stints at Belmont (2014), Eastern Kentucky (2015), USC Upstate (2016-19), and Nicholls State (2020-21). In his time as an assistant coach, Cook has worked with 18 All-League honorees and has mentored six MLB draft picks.Â
As an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at his alma mater, USC Upstate, Cook helped engineer an offensive attack that finished second in the league in hitting in 2019 and had the top two hitters in the Big South in terms of batting average. He also coached conference leaders in triples, HBP and on-base percentage. His recruiting helped pave the way for a Spartans program that went 50-21 over the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
At Nicholls State, he led the program to a top-10 finish nationally in stolen bases in 2020 and was promoted to pitching coach and recruiting coordinator in 2021, where he led that staff to a walks-per-nine rate that ranked among the nation's best.Â
As a player at USC Upstate (2008-12), Cook was a two-time captain, an Academic All-District selection, and an Atlantic Sun Conference All-Academic First Team honoree.Â
