Carley Kandel is going into her third season as an assistant coach on the Southern Illinois University women's soccer coaching staff in 2025.
Kandel's second year at SIU saw the Salukis earn a trip to the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. This was Southern's second-ever postseason appearance. Southern Illinois also had one player earn All-Conference honors as Oliva Anderson made the All-MVC Third Team.Â
In 2024, five players were named to the All-MVC Scholar Athlete teams: Lucy Horn, Kylie McDermott, Ashlyn Henrie, Olivia Anderson, and Sierra O'Grady.Â
In her first year as a Saluki, players such as Emma Spotak, McKinley Stiff, and Kylie McDermott all received postseason honors. Spotak was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Third Team, while both Stiff and McDermott earned spots on the All-MVC Scholar Athlete Third Team.Â
Women's soccer head coach Graeme Orr announced that Kandel would be joining the staff on June 22, 2023.
Prior to SIU, Kandel, a Jeromesville, Ohio native, spent the previous two seasons at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Ga., as a Graduate Assistant Coach. At Valdosta State, Kandel assisted with practice, scouting and recruiting, fundraising, and other functions of the team.
In her first season at Valdosta State, the Blazers went 11-7-1 and made an appearance in the NCAA South Region tournament in 2021.
Prior to Valdosta State, Kandel was a four-year letter winner and two-time captain on the women's soccer team at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, from 2017 to 2020. There, she graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education.Â
