Matt Ball enters his first season as assistant coach for the Southern Illinois Women's Soccer program.
“After reviewing a very competitive pool of candidates, Matt shared the qualities that we were looking for,” said Roberts. “He is a very talented coach that specializes in goalkeeping. His attention to detail not only on the pitch but off it will help take the program to new heights.”
Matt Ball arrives at SIU having spent the previous two years as the lead assistant at Montana State University Billings. In addition to aiding in all aspects of the program, Ball was also responsible for the team's goalkeepers.
"I'm very grateful for the belief in me shown by Coach Roberts,” said Ball. “His winning pedigree is clear to see and working alongside that is an opportunity you can't pass up. The moment I stepped on campus you could see the untapped potential that exists here. Everyone I met was extremely welcoming and excited by the trajectory of the soccer program. I look forward to meeting the team and getting to work."
Prior to this, Ball spent time as the Head Coach at NAIA institution University of Providence (MT) amassing a 18-11-4 record and qualifying for the conference tournament in both seasons in charge.
Ball began his college coaching career as an assistant coach at St. Xavier University and has remained active in the youth soccer arena at each stop working with MLS feeder programs and Olympic Development Programs.
Originally from Newcastle, England Ball played his collegiate soccer at Oakland City University where he was the team's starting goalkeeper and was named to the NCAA DII All-Region Team in 2010. He graduated with a Degree in Physical Education in 2012 and currently holds a Premier Diploma from United Soccer Coaches as well as goalkeeper diplomas.
