Chris Gillespie joined Coach Hill's staff at SIU in 2022 as the program's video coordinator and was promoted to director of football operations prior to the 2024 season.
In his current duties, the Carbondale native serves as the program's "GM", overseeing the roster, scouting and recruiting new players, negotiating contracts and managing payroll through Name, Image and Likeness.
Gillespie also coordinating the team’s travel, arranging flights, hotels and transportation for the team, coordinating all logistics on road trips. He is also responsible for managing the team’s budget and ensuring that the team’s expenses are in line with revenue.
Playing in the toughest conference at the FCS level, the Salukis advanced to the Sweet 16 of the FCS Playoffs in 2023. SIU was one of only two FCS teams in the nation to beat FBS opponents in both 2022 (Northwestern) and 2023 (Northern Illinois).
A 2013 SIU grad, Gillespie has extensive experience working in the private sector, working for Bank of America, Hannah House Child Development and the Marion Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
