
Salukis close out Fall at Purdue Invite

The Salukis closed out the Purdue Invite today by showing more improvement in times and performances in the pool.

Senior Bryn Handley continued to her string of Missouri Valley Conference-best performances, this time by placing sixth in the women's 1,650-yard freestyle. Her time of 16:31.46 is currently the best in the conference by nearly a minute. Her sixth place result was also the best finish of any Saluki throughout the Purdue Invite. She just barely missed recording an NCAA B cut time. The standard for this season in 16:30.59. Senior Nicole Fuller was 25th, junior Jordan Ries was 26th and sophomore Maggie Burke was 28th.

In the men's 1,650-yard freestyle, Sophomore Kevin Kluge was 16th with a time of 15:41.10. Senior Michael Wolfe was 18th with a time of 15:46.67 and sophomore Chris Cole was 22nd with a time of 15:57.10. Junior Nolan Fahey was 28th.

In the women's 200-yard breaststroke, sophomore Samantha Parsons finished 14th overall with a time of 2:17.17. It is currently the third fastest time in the MVC. Sophomore Laura Carver was 21st, junior Abby Kresal was 23rd, junior Emma Brazeau was 28th and senior Liane Tatigian was 32nd. On the men's side of the 200-yard breaststroke, freshman Sam Drew was 29th and sophomore Chris Phillips was 30th.

In the women's 200-yard fly, junior Audrey Snyder led the way with a 17th place finish in a time of 2:02.69 to win the C Final. She is currently third fastest in the MVC. Sophomore Payton Parman was 24th, freshman Abbie Young was 27th and Fuller was 30th.

In the men's 200-yard fly, Senior Michael Connor Was 24th and Cole was 26th.

In the men's 200-yard backstroke, senior Alex Crawford was 20th with a time of 1:49.00. He is currently second-fastest in the Mid-American Conference. Sophomore Ryan Lehane was 32nd.

In the women's 100-yard freestyle, Handley was 28th with a time of 51.88. Senior McKenna Avery was 29th with a time of 51.91.

In the men's and women's 400-yard freestyle relay, the men's team of Crawford, junior Reilly Garman, sophomore Matt Ciezczak and senior Nolan Hillard were fifth with a time of 3:05.41. On the women's side of the event, the team of Avery, Handley, sophomore Rita Naude and senior Chandler Ott finished seventh.

Overall, the men's team finished in sixth ahead of Navy and North Carolina and the women were seventh ahead of North Carolina.

Southern will now take a nearly two-month hiatus. Southern will be back in action on Jan. 13 when the women's team travel to face MVC foe Arkansas-Little Rock. The men and women will compete together the following week at the Butler Invite on January 21.
