
Saluki Athletics announces winners of inaugural DAWGSPYs

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Saluki Athletics held its first-ever DAWGSPYs student-athlete awards presentation on Wednesday night in SIU Arena. The event was organized by Student-Athlete Student Services and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.Â
Abby Barrow (Volleyball) earned the Charlotte West Award, and Austin Weigle (Track and Field) earned the Jerry Kill Award. Those awards were given to the student-athletes who best exemplified success in competition, in the classroom and in the community.Â
Sean O'Brien (Men's Basketball) and Brooke Cusumano (Women's Golf) were named male and female MVP. O'Brien finished his career No. 25 scoring (1,244), No. 8 in rebounds (805), No. 12 in blocked shots (71), No. 20 in assists (244) and No. 4 in games started (122). Cusumano set a program record for season stroke average and was second in SIU history for career rounds in the 70s.Â
 Kyle Landon (Track and Field) and Rishonda Napier (Women's Basketball) earned the Senior Saluki awards. Landon has earned All-America honors in the high jump all four years at SIU, and Napier, a three-time All-MVC honoree, ended her career second on the program's all-time scoring list.Â
