
Three Salukis earn MVC men's basketball specialty awards

ST. LOUIS -- In addition to winning the Missouri Valley Conference Sixth Man of the Year award, Southern Illinois senior guard Tyler Smithpeters is also the captain of the MVC's All-Bench team. The league announced its All-Bench team on Wednesday, plus the All-Newcomer squad, which featured SIU teammates Sean Lloyd and Aaron Cook.
Smithpeters played in all 31 games, with five starts. He enters the State Farm MVC Tournament averaging 7.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Additionally, Smithpeters is averaging 8.9 points in MVC-only games and shooting .398 from 3-point, with 48 assists and he had a stretch of at least one 3-pointer in 14-straight games.
