ST. LOUIS - Kent Williams was named the State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week Monday. The junior from Mt. Vernon, Ill. averaged 21.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in victories over previously unbeaten Illinois-Chicago and 24th-ranked Indiana.
It marked the second straight week an SIU player has claimed the award. Last week, Rolan Roberts was the conference player-of-the-week.
Williams connected on 19-of-24 free throw attemps and led the team in scoring in both games. His 17 second half points against the Hoosiers keyed SIU's 12-point victory.
Williams has scored at least 20 points in four of the Salukis' seven games this year and leads the team with a 17.6 ppg average.
