After garnering sixth and seventh place finishes at the Bradley Invitational, the Southern Illinois University Carbondale men's and women's cross country teams will take to the course Saturday, Sept. 16 at the 8K Midwest Collegiate in Kenosha, Wis.
SIU will be one of four Division I schools at the 38-team meet which will kickoff with the women's race at noon followed by the men's at 12:45 p.m. Chicago State, Depaul, and Wisconsin-Green Bay makeup the other Division I competitors.
"We're going into this meet pretty healthy and well-rested," said cross country Head Coach Don DeNoon. "The kids are a very competitive group and training well right now. We're trying to get that training up to a level where they can consistently perform."
And better their performance is what the Salukis are hoping to do this weekend after the SIU women were unable to capture its third consecutive Bradley Invitational title. Katie Meehan (19:01), Julie Roundtree (19:07), Jodi Huddlestun (19:34), Marissa Jelks (19:40), and Becky Cox (19:50) will look to improve their marks from a week ago as they combined for the Dawgs' top five placewinners.
As for the men, they will be without sophomore Steven Orange who is out with a sprained left ankle. Orange placed 64th last week with a time of 27:40. Christopher Owen posted SIU's best mark as he crossed the finish line in the 36th spot with a time of 26:41.
