CARBONDALE, ILL. - Southern Illinois Cross Country heads to Des Moines, Iowa, this week for the Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Drake University.
The championship races will take place Friday, Oct. 30, at AH Blank Golf Course, with the Saluki women opening the day in the 6,000-meter race at 10:30 a.m., followed by the men's 8,000-meter championship race at 11:30 a.m.
Southern Illinois enters the conference meet after a regular season that provided both teams with opportunities to develop against strong competition and over a variety of courses.
The men's group arrives in Des Moines after producing one of its strongest collective performances of the season at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational. The Salukis finished sixth out of 21 teams in the Gold Division, with seven personal records, four runners breaking 25 minutes in the 8K and five finishing under 25:10.
The women's team will look to carry forward the experience gained throughout the season, including its most recent appearance at the Under Armour Pre-National XC Classic in Terre Haute.
Southern Illinois will travel six men and seven women to the conference championships.
