SIU Track Teams to Host MVC Championships

The Southern Illinois University Carbondale men's and women's track teams will host the 2001 Missouri Valley Conference Track & Field Championships at the Student Rec Center on Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24. The men's championship will be the 34th and the women will be holding their 19th championship.
The Saluki men have won 12 indoor championships (1976-78, 80-84, 88, 90-92), while the women have claimed three indoor titles (1987-89). The Salukis last hosted the MVC Indoor Championships in 1997. The women finished second and the men placed fifth back in 1997.
In 2000, the Saluki women finished sixth with 43.83 points and the men finished sixth with 63 points.
The MVC Indoor Championships begin on Friday, February 23, at 11 a.m. with the women's weight throw and will finish with the men's 5000 meter run at 7:40 p.m. The meet will resume on Saturday, February 24, at 11 a.m. with the women?s triple jump and conclude with the men?s 4x400 meter relay at 2:55 p.m. followed by the awards ceremonies. The MVC Indoor Championships will cost $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.
