Salukis Down Sycamores in Game One, 3-2

Terre Haute, Ind. - Southern Illinois University Carbondale (11-14-1, 5-4 MVC) held off Indiana State University (10-13, 1-7 MVC) 3-2 in game one of their Missouri Valley Conference series on Friday, March 30, at Sycamore Field.
"Josh Latimer and Scott Lucht pitched well for us today. Luke Nelson got the big hit when we needed it to help us get a win," said Dan Callahan, Saluki head coach.
SIU took a 1-0 lead on a leadoff home run by Greg Andrews and extended the lead to 3-0 in the seventh inning when the Salukis scored two runs on a wild pitch and passed ball by the Sycamores. The Sycamores scored two runs in the eighth before Scott Lucht closed the door in the eighth and ninth to earn his second save. Josh Latimer (2-3) pitched seven and one third innings to get his second win. He allowed eight hits, two runs, struck out five and walked two.
Greg Andrews (3-for-5, home run, RBI, two runs scored) led SIU. Luke Nelson (1-for-5, RBI, run scored) drove in the tying run in the seventh and scored the winning run.
The Salukis continue their series with Indiana State University on Saturday, March 31 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
