April 30, 2001 - It was announced early Monday morning that Southern Illinois University Carbondale freshman Mary Jaszczak has opted to leave the Saluki softball team.
A right-handed pitcher, Jaszczak joined SIU from Joliet Township High School prior to the 2001 campaign. According to head coach Kerri Blaylock, Jaszczak's reason for leaving the team was that she plans on transferring to a school closer to her hometown of Shorewood, Ill.
Appearing in seven games while making five starts, Jaszczak posted a 1-3 record as the Salukis' number three pitcher this season. Registering a 2.67 ERA, she struck out seven batters in 21.0 innings of work while being touched for 21 hits and eight earned runs.
Jaszczak's decision to leave the Salukis was made early last week prior to the SIU/Bradley series.
