Dr. Megan Brown Joins Softball as Associate Head Coach

CARBONDALE, Ill. – SIU Softball has added one of the sport's most respected pitching minds to its coaching staff, as head coach Jen Sewell announced the hiring of Dr. Megan Brown as associate head coach.
Brown arrives in Carbondale with 16 years of collegiate coaching experience, including six seasons as a Division I head coach. Her resume includes coaching experience at the Power 5 level in the Pac-12, ACC and SEC, along with a proven track record of developing pitchers and utilizing cutting-edge analytics and technology to elevate performance.
"Bringing Megan Brown to Carbondale is a monumental win for SIU Softball," Sewell said. "Her rare combination of championship coaching experience, high-level professional playing experience, a proven track record of developing dominant pitchers and a deep scientific understanding of her craft makes her the perfect fit to elevate our pitching staff to new heights.
"SIU Softball isn't just adding a coach. We're adding a masterclass in pitching. Megan bridges the gap between elite pitch execution and science. Her data-driven approach and mentorship will give our pitchers a tremendous competitive edge from day one."
Brown currently serves as vice president for education on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Board of Directors, a position she assumed in January 2025. She also leads NFCA's National Fastpitch Coaches College course, NFCC 402A Advanced Analysis of Pitching, and has spoken at the NFCA National Convention.
Brown has represented the Big South Conference on the NFCA Head Coaches Committee since 2021. She also served as the conference's representative on the NCAA Softball Southeast Regional Advisory Committee from 2022-24, where she gained extensive knowledge of RPI, scheduling and postseason selection criteria.
Throughout her career, Brown has built a reputation as an innovator in player development. She created a pitching system that uses biomechanics to improve velocity, movement and overall effectiveness. The system has helped pitchers add 3-5 mph during their first year and as much as 7-9 mph over the course of their careers. Brown also developed an offensive system designed to increase efficiency and production at the plate.
She brings extensive experience using Synergy, Rapsodo, analytics and 6-4-3 Charts to enhance scouting, game preparation and player development.
As a player, Brown earned three All-America honors at Florida Southern College and pitched in three NCAA Division II National Championship tournaments. She later played professionally in National Pro Fastpitch and in professional leagues in Italy and the Netherlands.
Brown's accomplishments earned her induction into both the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame and the Florida Southern College Hall of Fame.
She has also made an impact on the international stage, coaching the Great Britain National Team in two World Championships and two European Championships.
Brown earned a Ph.D. in kinesiology from Auburn University in 2013, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. She also earned a Master of Education and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Florida Southern College.
A published author, Brown holds NFCA Endorsed Pitching Coach and NFCA Endorsed Hitting Coach certifications and has earned NFCA One Star Master Coach distinction.
With an accomplished background as a coach, educator, researcher and professional player, Brown strengthens a Saluki staff focused on competing for championships and continuing the program's tradition of excellence in the circle.
