Women's Basketball Prepares for Wichita State

Wichita, Kan. - Southern Illinois (4-9, 0-4) will look to put an end to its current six-game losing streak tomorrow night when the Salukis square off against Wichita State (7-7, 2-3) at 7 p.m.
Although SIU holds a commanding 28-12 advantage in the overall series against Wichita State, the Salukis haven't won a game at Levitt Arena in over five years. The last time SIU beat the Shockers on their homecourt was Jan. 2, 1996 (60-59).
SIU, who has lost seven of its last nine games, is still searching for its first conference win of the 2001-02 campaign. Led by junior guard Molly McDowell's 13.5 points per contest, the Salukis have struggled to put points on the board in their last three games where they have been outscored by their opponents 268-159. In addition, the Dawgs have hit just 32-of-123 field goals for a combined 26 percent over their last two outings.
Wichita State is coming off a 70-67 loss to Evansville which evened its record to 7-7 on the year. Jennifer Kaczka leads a talented Shocker group with 19.1 points per game. She is followed by Carlesa Dixon who is pitching in 13.6 points and sophomore Angela Buckner who is posting 12.1 points to go along with 12.5 rebounds.
Pre-Game Notes: SIU has lost by 33 or more points in each of its last three games, The Salukis haven't won a game since Dec. 8, Freshman Danette Jones saw her streak of five straight three-pointers come to an end after shooting 0-of-1 from behind the arc against SMS, Jones also scored just four points which ended a streak of three consecutive games scoring in double figures, After Illinois State defeated Creighton in overtime Saturday, the Salukis stand as the only Missouri Valley Conference team that hasn't won a league game this season.
