Darren Brooks Named Captain of MVC All-Bench Team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois freshman guard Darren Brooks headlined the list of selections for the 2002 Missouri Valley Conference All-Bench Team.

The only freshman ever selected as the All-Bench Team's captain, Brooks ranks among the league leaders in 3-point field goal percentage (.425) and steals (1.37 steals per contest). He is the Salukis' fourth-leading scorer with 9.6 ppg and third-leading rebounder with 4.3 rpg. Brooks, a native of St. Louis, was joined on the team by Mike Grimes of Creighton, Matt Berry of Indiana State, Lonnie Randolph of Drake and Jordan Watson of Evansville.

The 2001-02 season marks the eighth consecutive campaign The Valley has recognized an All-Bench Team. The team was selected by the league's newspaper beatwriters.
