CARBONDALE - Jeff Young, Noa Beitler and Adam Judge each had first-place finishes to lead the Southern Illinois University men's and women's track and field teams at separate unscored events on Saturday.
The Saluki men competed at the unscored Carle/Health Alliance Illini Classic in Champaign against rival Illinois and last year's Big Ten champion, the University of Wisconsin. SIU held its own against some very tough competition, led by Adam Judge, who broke an SIU record and set a personal best in the weight throw with a first-place toss of 68 feet, 6 inches.
Jeff Young added another first-place showing for the Salukis in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.89 seconds.
Beitler had the only first-place showing for the SIU women at the 28th Indiana Relays. Beitler clocked in at 2 minutes, 18 seconds in the 800 meter run.
Other standout performances for SIU included second place finishes for Doron Giat (3,000m, 8:28.51), Latrice Gray (High Jump, 1.76m) and Marvin Primo (200m, 22.34). Jaanus Uudmae added third place finishes in the long jump (22-1 1/2) and triple jump (48-4), and Joe Zeibert (800m, 1:55.91) and Kevin Mills (60m, 6.91) each had strong third-place showings.
