Carbondale, Ill. - Due to impending inclement weather, Syracuse University has chosen not to travel to the 2002 Kay Brechtelsbauer Southern Classic Saturday-Sunday, March 2-3.
The annual tournament, hosted by SIU, is played in Carbondale, Ill., where weather forecasters are calling for "wintery" conditions throughout the weekend. SIU and Syracuse were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader at 1:30 p.m., tomorrow afternoon.
Following Syracuse's decision, which was made after both coaches spoke earlier today, the tournament field was narrowed to SIU, Loyola-Chicago, Eastern Illinois, Western Illinois and Iowa.
