City of Carbondale Proclaims Friday SIU Saluki Basketball Day

CARBONDALE, Ill. - A proclamation from the City of Carbondale will be presented to Southern Illinois men's basketball coach Bruce Weber on Wednesday, and the city has declared Friday "SIU Saluki Basketball Day" in Carbondale.
City Councilman Mike Neill will represent the City of Carbondale and present the proclamation in a short ceremony on the SIU Arena floor Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. It is open to the public.
The team will leave SIU Arena at noon on Wednesday and it's charter flight departs from Marion at 1 p.m.
The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce is urging all Carbondale citizens to "paint the town maroon" on SIU Saluki Basketball Day - Friday, March 15, 2002.
In a press release the Chamber of Commerce said: "Wear your SIU clothes and pins, hang SIU flags, and show your support for the Dawgs! Hope you can join us for the ceremony & show the team that the Carbondale community is full of Saluki Pride!"
Southern Illinois will play Texas Tech in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday at 6:50 p.m. in Chicago.
