Southern Illlinois senior center Rolan Roberts, looking to improve his NBA Draft status, had an impressive showing at the Portsmouth Invitational last week.
In three games, he was the leading scorer for the Riddle Acura team, averaging 19.0 ppg and shooting 70.3 percent from the field.
The Portsmouth Invitational featured approximately 50 of the nation's top senior players. Some of Roberts' teammates included Luke Recker (Iowa), Kris Lang (North Carolina), Brandon Granville (USC), Keith McCloud (Bowling Green) and Kevin Lyde (Temple).
Riddle Acura finished the six-team tournament with a 1-2 record. Roberts had 16 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots against Beach Barton Ford in game one. He followed that with a 20-point, 5-rebound performance against Norfolk Sports Club. In the final game versus Sales Systems LTD., Roberts scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Representatives from every NBA team were on hand for the tournament. The 2002 NBA Draft will be held June 26, in New York.
