Carbondale, Ill. - Jen Guenther was one of 40 Missouri Valley Conference student-athletes to win the Presidents Council Academic Excellence Award, announced this week by league commissioner Doug Elgin.
A member of the SIU softball team, Guenther was also one of six student-athletes to post a 4.00 cumulative GPA en route to gaining the distinction.
The Presidents Council Academic Excellence Award, which recognizes the elite academic achievements of graduating senior student-athletes, is presented to those student-athletes who have a minimum 3.8 cumulative GPA through the fall semester, have participated in athletics a minimum of two years ( not necessary to be a letterwinner) and are within 18 hours of graduation at the time the award is to be bestowed.
Drake and Bradley each qualified seven student-athletes for the honor.
