Carbondale, Ill. - The new Southern Illinois University softball stadium is continuing to progress as planned entering its fifth month of construction in October. The stadium is on schedule to be completed in early 2003. The beginning of the press box, dugouts and lockerrooms are starting to take shape.
The groundwork began on June 1 and is under the watch of the SIU Athletic Department and Fager-McGee, the project supervisor. The work on the playing field itself is expected to begin shortly. The current stadium status of the stadium can be seen in the attached photo gallery.
The $1.5 million stadium will have a capacity of 500 and includes chairback seating. The facility will feature dugouts, a concession stand, bathrooms, lockerrooms, two batting cages, lights, a press box, training room, laundry facilities and an irrigation system. The new press box will include multiple phone lines.
