Carbondale, Ill. - The new Southern Illinois University softball stadium is progressing as planned by the SIU Athletic Department and Fager-McGee, the project supervisor. The project groundwork began June 1 and has just entered its fourth month of construction in September. The work on the playing field itself is expected to begin shortly. The current stadium status of the stadium can be seen in the photo gallery linked to this story.
The $1.5 million stadium is expected to be completed in early 2003. The new stadium will have a capacity of 500 and includes chairback seating. The facility will feature dugouts, a concession stand, bathrooms, lockerrooms, two batting cages, lights, a press box, training room, laundry facilities and an irrigation system. The new press box will include phone and ethernet lines.
