Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University track and field teams will host the McDonald's Invitational Friday and Saturday at the SIU Student Recreation Center.
The men's weight throw will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by the women. The women's long jump and men's pole vault will start at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the women's shot put and pole vault will begin at 9 a.m. The first running event is scheduled for 11 a.m.
Tentatively, 13 teams will compete in the women's field and eight in the men's field. Joining SIU in the scored meet will be squads from Austin Peay, Belmont, Bevill, Lindenwood, Lincoln College, Memphis, Murray State, Southeast Missouri State, Southern Indiana, Troy State, the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and UT-Martin.
"It's a situation where we can get out and compete with a full squad," said men's coach Cameron Wright. "It's an opportunity to see where we stand. Some are ready and some need to get back in shape. From what I saw early this week, I feel like most of them are ready to go."
"This is an opportunity for the coaches to see where the kids are conditioning-wise to start the season after a month break," said women's coach Connie Price-Smith. "I'm excited to see what they can do."
