Softball Holds Its Fifth Annual Fundraising Dinner on January 23

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University softball program will host the 5th Annual Saluki Softball Fundraising Dinner on Friday, January 23 at 6:30 p.m. at Fred's Dance Barn in Carterville, Ill. The event will cost $15.00 per person and all proceeds will directly benefit the Saluki softball program.
The Saluki Softball Fundraising Dinner will be catered by 17th Street Bar & Grill, and includes bar-b-que chicken, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, rolls and dessert. Prizes will be raffled off all evening. For more information, contact SIU head coach Kerri Blaylock at 618-453-5466. The first 400 donors will have reservations.
The Salukis are coming off a record-setting season, finishing 39-14 with an NCAA Tournament Regional final appearance and as one of the final 16 teams left in the NCAA Tournament. The 2003 Salukis won SIU's first three NCAA Tournament games and earned SIU and the MVC's first NCAA Tournament at-large bid. In addition, SIU finished the season with its first Top 25 national ranking, finishing #22 (NFCA) and #23 (ESPN.com/USA Softball) respectively in the nation in the final Top 25 polls. SIU will open the 2004 spring season at the Triple Crown Invitational on Feb. 6-8 in St. Augustine, Fla., a tournament SIU won with a 4-0 record in 2003. The Salukis return 12 athletes, including all ten starters, from the 2003 Sweet Sixteen team.
