Darren Brooks Named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Two days after breaking the school record for steals in a game, Southern Illinois University guard Darren Brooks was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player-of-the-Week Monday.

The junior guard led Southern Illinois to victories over Southeast Missouri State last Wednesday and Drake on Saturday. He dominated the Drake game, scoring 24 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. It was Brooks' defense that was especially remarkable. Brooks snagged eight steals, breaking the school record of six, and he added a career-high four blocked shots.

Brooks leads the team in scoring (18.6 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg). Southern Illinois is 5-0 and off to its best start in 10 years.
