Williams Named First Team Scholar-Athlete

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - For the second straight year, Southern Illinois University guard Kent Williams was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Men's Basketball First Team, by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
Williams, a 6-2, senior from Mt. Vernon, Ill., is the team's leading scorer and also carries a 3.1 GPA in marketing.
The criteria for the Missouri Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the Verizon/CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average (4.0 scale). Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution.
