Men's Basketball Picks Up MVC Honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - In the first wave of league awards, Southern Illinois had three players honored by the Missouri Vally Conference Tuesday. Brad Korn was named to the All-Bench team, while Darren Brooks and Stetson Hairston were picked for the Most-Improved Team.
Korn, a 6-foot-9 junior forward, is the team's leading scorer off the bench with 5.8 ppg. During a seven-game stretch of conference games from Jan. 4 to Jan. 25, he knocked down 17-of-27 shots and 9-of-14 3-point attempts.
Brooks and Hairston, both sophomore guards, have significantly improved their scoring averages this season. Brooks has jumped from 9.4 ppg to 12.9 ppg, while Hairston has improved from 7.3 ppg to 12.0 ppg.
Brooks has five, 20-point games this season including a career-high 25 at Wichita State. He is second on the team in rebounding (5.8 rpg) and leads the team in steals (49) and blocked shots (16).
In the last three games, Hairston has made 11-of-16 3-point attempts, including a stretch of seven in a row. He leads the team in assists (79) and is second in steals (45).
