Carbondale, Ill. - Southern Illinois University will play its first midweek softball games of the season when the Salukis (16-4) travel to Cape Girardeau, Mo. for a Wednesday doubleheader against Southeast Missouri State (4-12). The non-conference games will be held at the Southeast Softball Complex at 4 p.m.
"I'm just excited to play our first midweek games. These games help you get in a rhythm. If you wait weekend to weekend you get stale. Softball players need to keep playing. Playing keeps you fresh, hitters need to see the ball and pitchers need to pitch innings," Kerri Blaylock, SIU head coach said.
"We need to work on some things to get ready for Creighton this weekend. We have to focus on playing our own game. SEMO always plays us very tough and aggressive. We enjoy playing each other and many of the kids know each other."
The Salukis won all three games with SEMO last year and are 8-1 against Southeast Missouri State under Blaylock. SIU leads the all-time series 65-28-1.
The dawgs are led by Katie Jordan (.340, 7 HR, 14 RBI), Kelly Creek (.322 BA, 3 HR, 5 2B, 14 RBI), Katie Louis (.304, 5 HR, 3 2B, 14 RBI) and Jenny Doehring (.271, HR, 5 2B, 9 RBI) at the plate. Pitchers Renee Mueller (5-1, 0.98 ERA) and Amy Harre (10-3, No-hitter, 0.91 ERA) lead the SIU pitchers.
