SIU Head Coach Dan Callahan
On Game: "Toby (Barnett) did a good job of getting the table set with the two-run homer in the first inning, and Jake (Alley) did a solid job of getting us into the seventh inning. Offensively, we did a good job with two out, two-strike hitting situations."
On the need to answer UNI's three-run seventh inning: "When you have guys like (Adam) Boeve, (Tyson) Hanish and others in that UNI lineup, you need to answer rallies with one of your own. I thought's Toby homer to start the seventh did a good job of counteracting that."
SIU Pitcher Jake Alley
On his 143-pitch count: "Coach Cal and I didn't want me to throw too many pitches, because I want to come back in the tournament. Early on and throughout the game, I wasn't very sharp but I kept battling my way through it. I was tired at the end, but I was more frustrated than anything else."
On becoming SIU's all-time strikeout leader: "I will say it was in the back of my mind, but winning this game was more important. I'm glad we got it out of the way early. It's an honor when you consider some of the guys who have worn this uniform. Jason Frasor, who was a senior when I was a freshman, was the all-time leader, and it means a lot since I pitched with him."
SIU Catcher Toby Barnett
On the effects of the early start time: "We weren't affected by the early start. It helped that we were able to build a lead at the start of the game."
On SIU's two-out rallies: "We've been rallying with two outs all season. (On seventh inning homer) With their lineup, we wanted to keep that buffer zone between us. Answering their rally in the seventh was a deciding factor."
UNI Head Coach Rick Heller
On Game: "We had some chances early, but could not get the key hit. Offensively, our plan was to get (Jake) Alley's pitch count up, which we did. But he made the pitches when we threatened."
On UNI's pitching: "We pitched awful today. Chris Rosselot, for some reason, did not have it today. His breaking ball was up and his fastball didn't have velocity ? that's a bad combination."
On Southern Illinois' two-out success at the plate: "It was frustrating to be a pitch away from working out of a situation, but for whatever reason, Chris (Rosselot) was not very good."
On SIU's Jake Alley: "He did what a good No. 1 pitcher does. He made the pitches when he needed to today."
UNI Outfielder Adam Boeve
On Game: "We have some chances early, and we had runners scoring position throughout the game, but couldn't get a hit. Like Coach Heller said, we did a good job of getting (Jake) Alley's pitch count up, but he made the necessary pitches to work out of it."
