Alley Named Second-Team ABCA/Rawlings All-Midwest Region

Carbondale, Ill. - Anna, Ill., native Jake Alley was named to the 2003 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Midwest Region Team, announced this week. A second-team pick, Alley garnered the honor for the first time in his collegiate career.
Also named first-team all-MVC, Alley became SIU's all-time career strikeout leader this past season. Holding a 3.22 ERA, he went 7-4 and struck out a team-leading 72 batters in 95 innings of work. Appearing in 16 games, while making 14 starts, Alley also posted a pair of shutouts and threw five complete games. Additionally, he helped lead the Salukis to their first MVC Tournament Championship round appearance since 1990, as he finished his career with a total of 284 strikeouts.
Alley was one of 10 Missouri Valley Conference players voted to this year's team.
