KARKKILA, Finland - The Southern Illinois University men's basketball team improved to 3-0 on its European tour with a 103-60 thrashing of Finnish club team Componeta on Thursday night.
The Salukis lit up their opponents from 3-point range, converting 12-of-21 shots from behind the arc. Junior guard Darren Brooks led SIU with 26 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-6 from 3-point.
"We played a very average club team tonight," head coach Matt Painter said. "We did a good job of moving the basketball and capitalizing on their mistakes. We shot the ball well and were able to dictate how they defended us."
Senior forward Brad Korn and redshirt freshman guard Ryan Walker were both deadly from 3-point range for the Salukis. Korn made 3-of-6 from outside the arc, en route to a 22-point evening. Walker connected on 4-of-5 3-pointers and finished with 20 points.
"Ryan and Brad shot the ball very well," Painter said. "I was especially pleased with Brad's game. When they came out on him, he attacked, drove to the basket and drew fouls."
The Salukis return to action tomorrow with another game in Finland. They have Saturday off and will play Sunday and Tuesday in Sweden.
