Men's Golf Takes Fifth at D.A. Weibring Classic

NORMAL, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's men's golf team finished fifth out of 15 teams at the D.A. Weibring Classic which ended earlier today at University Golf Course. The Salukis, who were without their top golfer, Brian Norman, shot a 878 for the tournament.
Holding the sixth-place spot following its first two rounds, SIU came back with a final 18-hole score of 293 to improve to fifth. Prior to today's round, the Salukis shot a 293 and 292, respectively.
Dustin Stewart finished sixth with a 72-71-71--214 to lead all Saluki golfers. Freshman Kyle Hosick followed with a 70-71-76--217 which tied for 11th.
Host Illinois State (853) won this year's D.A. Weibring Classic, while St. Ambrose (859), Northern Illinois (869), UMKC (873) and SIU (878) rounded out the top five.
Norman was forced to miss this week's tournament due to illness.
SIU returns to action at the DePaul Blue Demon Invitational on Sept. 29-30.
