St. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Sophomore Katie Louis' first hit of the season, a three-run homer in the first inning, provided the winning runs in SIU's 5-0 win over Stetson (5-1) on Saturday at the Triple Crown Invitational.
SIU added single runs in the second and third innings. In the second, Amanda Clifton reached on an error. Christina Andrews pinch ran for Clifton and scored after a fielder's choice and an RBI single by Jenny Doehring. In the third, Maria Damico singled after a sacrifice by Haley Viefhaus and two-base error by Stetson for a 5-0 lead.
The five runs were all the runs Amy Harre (1-0) needed to pick up her first win of the year. Harre threw a complete game two-hitter including eight strikeouts and one walk.
Louis went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Doehring added a 2-for-2 outing with a run and an RBI.
The Salukis will face Bethune-Cookman at 8 a.m. on Sunday in the championship bracket.
