Painter, Brooks Honored by United States Basketball Writers Association

The United States Basketball Writers Association named Southern Illinois University men's basketball coach Matt Painter the District 5 Coach of the Year Tuesday. Also, junior guard Darren Brooks was one of 10 players named to the all-district team.
District 5 consists of all Division I teams in the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Painter, along with the other eight district Coaches of the Year, are finalists for the USBWA's national Coach of the Year award.
The Salukis (25-4, 17-1) won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season by five games. Painter and Brooks were named the MVC's Coach and Player of the Year, respectively.
