PEORIA, Ill. - Despite a one hour rain delay during the bottom of the first inning, SIU's Amy Harre threw a three-hit shutout, leading the Salukis to a 2-0 win over Bradley in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday at Laura Bradley Park.
"Amy had to wait an hour for a rain delay before she comes back to finish the first inning and she does a good job against them, they're a very good hitting team. She always gives us a chance to win and that's all you can ask for. I thought she threw very well today and set the tone for the doubleheader," added Kerri Blaylock, Saluki head coach.
The Salukis scored the only two runs of the game on two hits, an error and a wild pitch in the top of the third inning. Linsdsey Bonnell reached on an error to open the inning, and advanced to second base on a sacrifice by Jenny Doehring. Samantha Carter singled to move Bonnell to third, before moving to second on Katie Jordan's groundout. Bradley starter Kristy Brod followed with a wild pitch, allowing Carter to advance to third base and Bonnell to score for a 1-0 SIU lead.
Haley Viefhaus walked to put runners on the corners for Amanda Clifton, who singled to drive in Carter for a 2-0 lead.
Harre (15-5) struck out four and didn't walk a batter to earn her 15th win of the year. She didn't allow a runner to reach third base in the game and only allowed three total baserunners on singles.
Bradley's Brod (14-8) allowed two runs, five hits and three walks in the loss. She struck out six in her seven innings.
Carter (2-for-4, run), Clifton (1-for-3, RBI), Bonnell (1-for-3, run) and Doehring (1-for-3) picked up SIU's five hits.
