Southern Illinois coach Dan Callahan: "I thought we were very good on the mound tonight. Eric Haberer did a good job setting the tone for the game. I don't pay much attention to the hits column on the scoreboard, but I looked up in the fourth or fifth inning and saw they didn't have any hits. He did a good job locating his off-speed pitches. He and Coach (Bryan) Wolff did a good job keeping SMS off-balance. And Andrew Weber came in and did a good job in the ninth, too.
"I thought a key for us emotionally was the (P.J. Finigan) two-out hit in the ninth. I think the SMS dugout would have been up for grabs if they get out of that jam. He did a good job with two strikes. It wasn't pretty...that hit was huge for our momentum and gave us a little more cushion."
Southern Illinois P Eric Haberer: "I didn't have my best fastball tonight, but it had more movement than usual. I was able to hit my spots and work both sides of the plate. They kept rolling it and hitting it on the ground.
(on pitching out of a first-and-third, one-out jam in the eighth inning) "A 2-0 lead in college baseball isn't a lot. Anything can happen...that was probably the most nervous I've ever been in a college baseball game."
Southern Illinois OF Matt Brewer (on his solo home run off Derek Drage in the second inning): "Drage was really effective, he was in and out, up and down, but I felt like my timing was good the last time we were here. He gave me one I could handle and hit it out."
SMS coach Keith Guttin: "Great pitching performance all the way around, it was no surprise we knew what to expect."
(on playing Evansville): We play one game tomorrow and that's all there is. We have time to rest and refresh. You have to look at the small picture.
SMS SS Brooks Colvin (on facing Haberer): "Its frustrating because he puts it right there and challenges you each time. He made some good pitches and got outs."
(on the game tomorrow) "We still have good arms going tomorrow for us. You can't look at it in a big picture, you have to take it one at a time."
