CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University men's basketball players Stetson Hairston and Mike Dale were charged Wednesday in Jackson County Court for their participation in a fight that took place on July 17, at an apartment in Lewis Park in Carbondale. In the police report, Hairston said he was attacked by a group of men on the night of the 17th. He and a group of individuals later returned to the mens' apartment and a fight took place with the occupants, police said. No one was arrested that evening, however, Hairston and Dale were later charged when the police report was reviewed by the state attorney's office. "We have to let the legal system work its course," Saluki head coach Chris Lowery said. "If it turns out there are grounds to these charges, then there will be swift and significant disciplinary action." Hairston will be a senior next season and was the team's third-leading scorer last year. Dale enters his sophomore year at SIU and has yet to play for the Salukis. "I'm disappointed they allowed themselves to be in that situation in the first place," Lowery said. "I expect our players to maintain the highest standards of personal conduct."
