Women's Golf finishes 16th at Shootout at The Legends

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Action finished today at the Shootout at The Legends, held at The Legends of Indiana Golf Course in Franklin, Ind. (par 72, 6,073 yards).
The Salukis shot a 3-round total of 943 (315, 314, 314) putting them in 16th place out of 19 teams. Conference rival Illinois State finished second (301, 298, 287=886)
The top individual finisher for the team was Natalie Parker (79, 80, 76=235) who tied for 56th place out of 95 competitors. Following close behind her was Samantha Sutzer (81, 79, 77=237) who finished tied for 64th place. Josie Lowder tied for 70th (84, 78, 77=239), and Braidy Hood (80, 77, 85=242) and Christine Zoerlein (75, 83, 84=242) both tied for 82nd.
"We had highlights and low lights," said Coach Diane Daugherty.
One of the highlights came when sophomore Zoerlein hit a hole-in-one on the 13th hole, marking at 120 yards.
"There was a small hill so you could only see the top half of the pin," said Zoerlein. "I didn't know the ball went in until a dad up by the green threw his arms up in the air making a touchdown sign."
"At first I was in disbelief. I actually had to walk up there and look at it and see the ball in the cup to make sure it had actually happened, this was my first hole-in-one."
Zoerlein was less enthusiastic about the way the team played.
"I think we did average," said Zoerlein. "We could have done a lot better, but I don't think we gave up at all. We are at a mediocre state right now, but as soon as we get rid of double bogeys we will be a lot better."
The competition at this tournament is the most difficult all-around the Salukis have faced this season. The tournament featured many of the Top 50 teams.
"We were pretty consistent, but we need to get our scores down lower, especially when we are playing the kind of competition that we are," said Daugherty.
The Salukis finish the fall season at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate October 24-25, in Clarksville, Tenn.
