WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Three Salukis finished play in the top 20 at the Joe Agee Invitational Monday, after 36 holes of play. Southern Illinois University is currently seventh, heading into Tuesday's final round.
Junior transfer Mark Schmitz shot a 2-under-par 70 in the second round to add to his first-round 75, finishing the day 12th with a 1-over 145. Senior co-captain Sean McNemar and Daniel Tomlin are both tied for 20th following two rounds of play at 3-over-par 147.
Hosted by the College of William & Mary, the Joe Agee Invitational is a 54-hole tournament taking place at Two Rivers Country Club. The par-72 course plays at 6,868 yards.
After struggling in the first round with a team-total 11-over-par 299, the Dawgs rebounded in the afternoon with a 2-over 290 for a 36-hole total 589. SIU is currently seventh with George Washington University leading at 3-under-par.
Junior Andrew Gwinup shot 75-76--151 to finish the day tied for 39th at 7-over-par. Senior co-captain Roger Welch is tied for 53rd after carding rounds of 76-78--154.
Play concludes Tuesday morning at Two River Country Club in Williamsburg, Va.
