Amarachi Ukabam Named MVC Field Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - For the fourth time this year thrower Amarachi Ukabam was named the Missouri Valley Conference female field athlete of the week the league office announced Tuesday.
Ukabam, a junior from Creve Coeur, Mo., won three events Saturday at the Saluki Spring Classic, qualifying for the NCAA Regional Meet in all three events in her first outdoor meet of the season.
She threw 51-10 in the shot put to break the SIU all-time record set back in 1999 by Tawnjai Ames (51-09.25). With a toss of 177-10 in the hammer throw Ukabam threw for the second-best mark in school history. Her mark of 163-01 in the discus ranks third all-time at SIU. All three performances rank Ukabam first in the MVC this season.
