OMAHA, Neb. - Marc Lewis and Teddy Ogilvie combined for a three-hit shutout of Southern Illinois in Creighton's 7-0 victory over the Salukis, Saturday afternoon at the CU Sports Complex.
After allowing a hit to Kevin Koski to start the game, Lewis (3-1) cruised through the Salukis' lineup. The sophomore did not allow another hit and tied a career high with eight strike outs in six innings of work.
Ogilvie replaced Lewis to start the seventh inning and recorded his first career save, pitching the final three frames. The sophomore allowed two hits, both infield singles.
A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning by Tony Roth scored Colin Shockey, giving CU the only run it would need. Shockey led-off the inning with his eighth double of the season.
An RBI single by Chase Odenreider scored David Schultz, giving CU a 2-0 lead. Tony Daniel had his first of two doubles for the game in the inning.
With a 3-0 lead, Roth started CU's four-run seventh inning with a solo home run to left field off P.J. Finigan. A single by Zach Daeges and double of the bat of Dan Norquist brought Daniel to the plate. The senior catcher doubled to right center, scoring two runs and chasing Finigan from the game.
An infield hit by Shockey scored Daniel for CU's fourth run of the inning. The Bluejays sent ten-batters to the plate in the seventh.
Finigan recorded eight strikeouts in the game, but dropped to 3-2 on the season.
Creighton out-hit SIU, 15-3. The Salukis recorded three errors to CU's one.
SIU and CU wrap up their series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
