CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Women's Golf team finished 10th out of 16 teams at The Bay Tree Classic. The Salukis scores got better as the 3-day tournament progressed. They opened the tournament Friday shooting a 319. The team was not happy with that performance and was determined to improve, which they did on Saturday with a score of 315. Finally on Sunday they finished with their best team total, 311. The Salukis were 11th after the first day of competition and were able to move up one slot to finish the tournament in 10th place.
Freshman Braidy Hood made a great showing at the Myrtle Beach tournament finishing tied for 38th. One of the people she tied with was fellow Saluki Samantha Sutzer. Both shot a three day total of 236. Hood's individual round scores were 82, 76, 78, and Sutzer's scores were 79, 80, 77.
"I can't say enough good about Braidy Hood," said Coach Diane Daugherty. "She tied for the team low and that is really bright for her and for our team."
Natalie Parker (81, 79, 77) and Christine Zoerlein (78, 80, 79) also finished in a tie for 42nd place. Both ended up shooting a 237. Josie Lowder ended the weekend tied for 53rd after shooting 81, 81, 79 (241).
"We improved four shots each day," said Daugherty. "It's also the first time we had everyone on the team shoot under 80. Can we play better, yes, but the whole goal of the fall is to prepare for the spring and conference play which we did this weekend."
Middle Tennessee State took the lead after the first round and never looked back winning the tournament with a team score of 901. The individual champion was Angie Hill from Charleston (73, 73, 72 = 218).
