ST. CATHARINES, Ontario-Junior Carlai Moore and freshman Jasmine Gibson each scored 12 points to lead Southern Illinois to a 67-38 exhibition win over Brock University earlier today.
SIU took advantage of the Badgers' turnovers midway through the game, where it went on a 15-0 run over a six minute span to take a commanding 48-25 lead with 17:50 left.
Brock struggled all afternoon from the field, and as a result, connected on only 33.3 percent (12-for-36) of its attempts.
SIU's up-tempo style forced the Badgers to turn the ball over 40 times in the contest. The miscues led to 31 points, as the Dawgs shot 46.8 percent from the field (29-for-62), including 55.9 percent in the first half.
"I liked our intensity on defense from the get-go," said head coach Dana Eikenberg. "When we choose to defend, we can pretty much control the tempo."
Moore paved the way for the Salukis with 12 points and eight boards. Gibson also pitched in a dozen points on 6-of-10 from the floor.
India Bruster followed with seven points and nine rebounds, while Erin Pauk posted eight points, five steals and three assists in the victory.
SIU continues its 2005 Canadian Tour tomorrow when it takes on the University of Guelph and Wilfrid-Laurier.
