CARBONDALE, Ill. - Saluki men's basketball coach Chris Lowery announced Friday that guard Jamaal Tatum will serve a three-game suspension for violating team rules.
Tatum, who was cited during a traffic stop last March, will miss the first three games in the upcoming season. The Salukis' leading scorer from last year's NCAA Tournament team will return for the Murray State game on Nov. 19.
"Jamaal has been a role model and team leader this summer," Lowery said. "However, when a team rule is broken, there must be consequences."
Lowery added that reserve forwards Tony Boyle and Jamaal Foster will also serve suspensions for violating team rules during unrelated incidents. Each will serve one game.
"I think the suspensions are appropriate," said Saluki Director of Athletics Mario Moccia. "Coach Lowery has set high standards for the personal conduct of his team, and I support these measures."
