Matt Shaw named Missouri Valley Conference player-of-the-week

Saluki junior forward Matt Shaw earned player-of-the-week honors in the Missouri Valley Conference, the league announced Monday.

Shaw averaged 16.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game at the Old Spice Classic where SIU beat Minnesota and Virginia Tech and lost to Arkansas.

Against the Golden Gophers, Shaw recorded a career-high 26 points. For the week, he was 15-of-25 (60.0) from the field, 6-of-13 (46.2) from 3-point range and 14-of-18 (77.8) from the line.

It was the first time in Shaw's career that he earned the award. In fact, the Salukis had won the honor only twice in the last two years.
