ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Following a storm system that brought with it near-freezing temperatures and a sub-freezing wind chill, Southern Illinois University Head Softball Coach Kerri Blaylock and Texas Tech Head Coach Teresa Wilson decided to cancel Sunday's final game of the Triple Crown Invitational.
Because of flight and travel schedules, Sunday's game could not be re-scheduled for a later time when warmer temperatures would be a possibility.
SIU finishes the season-opening tournament with a 4-0 record, winning the Triple Crown Invitational Tournament title.
Freshman Jayme Wamsley and sophomore Chelsea Petty led the Salukis in hitting with five hits each. Wamsley and senior Katie Louis each picked up home runs in the tournament.
Pitchers Cassidy Scoggins and Ashley Hamby each finish the tournament with 2-0 records. Scoggins leads the team with a 0.00 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched.
SIU will return to action at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 17 against Tennessee State in the Mississippi State Invitational.
