STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Southern Illinois softball team opened the Mississippi State Invitational with an 8-0 win over Tennessee State in six innings Friday afternoon.
The Salukis (5-0) picked up their third shutout of the season behind a career-high nine strikeouts from Ashley Hamby and errorless defense.
Jayme Wamsley, Lauren Haas and Katie Louis led the SIU offense with two hits apiece. Haas picked up two RBI, while Wamsley and Louis added one each. Krystal Stein picked up one hit, one RBI and two stolen bases, scoring two Saluki runs.
Southern will take on tournament host Mississippi State today at 4 p.m.
